Edward Smith

Guitar, Singing & Piano

At what age did you begin learning your instrument?

I started guitar when I was 10 and singing soon followed as I wanted to write and sing my own songs. I started piano lessons when I was in secondary school and I have sung and played ever since.

Where did you study?

I gained a diploma at college before completing my degree in Music and Music technology at Derby University.

Who do you currently play for?

I freelance as a solo singer and guitarist covering a range of different songs for weddings and private parties. I have been playing in other bands and duos for over 15 years.

Please tell us more about your music experiences.

I was in a rock duo for 15 years. I have performed extensively, recorded, mixed, and mastered three of my own albums in addition to mixing albums for other artists. Gigs include functions, outdoor events, charity events and festivals.

Have you performed on TV and Radio?

I have been on several radio interviews talking about songwriting.

Apart from music, what other hobbies do you have?

In between music, I became a qualified joiner therefore I enjoy woodwork and property maintenance.

If you had one piece of advice for music students, what would it be?

Learn different styles of music and listen to as much music as possible. Always be creative, have a go at writing songs, get together with other musicians and enjoy all the opportunities.
