At what age did you begin learning your instrument? 

The piano was the first instrument I learnt and I was age 10; unless you count the few years of (probably badly) self-taught recorder before that...

Where did you study? 

I studied Music at the University of Nottingham and have both a first-class BA (Hons) Music degree and a postgraduate MA Music degree specialising in music analysis.

Who do you currently play for? 

Currently, I am a busy Musical Director, as well as playing keyboards for many different musicals in Derby, Nottingham and Burton. I have worked for many different theatre companies including Derby Youth Musical Theatre and Cabaret Theatre​

 

Please tell us more about your music experiences. 

There are far too many shows to name, but favourites I've MD'd include "Barnum" and "Phantom of the Opera" for Derby Youth Musical Theatre and "Jesus Christ Superstar" which I've done a couple of times now!​

 

Apart from music, what other hobbies do you have? 

I enjoy doing anything active; running, walking, doing exercise classes, or just watching sports if I'm feeling lazy!

If you had one piece of advice for music students, what would it be? 

Music is much more than just playing the right notes - it's okay to forgive yourself a few mistakes and be creative sometimes.
