Which instruments are available for my child to learn?

Music Academy for Schools offers tuition on a range of instruments:
Woodwind – Clarinet, Flute, Alto Saxophone, Oboe and Bassoon
Brass – Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, Trombone/Pbone and Tuba
Strings – Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass
Drum Kit
Piano
Guitar – Electric, Acoustic and Bass

How often are lessons given and are the children taught in groups?

Pupils are taught in pairs and receive a 20-minute weekly lesson. The pupils are paired depending on instrument and ability and are reviewed every five lessons to ensure that pupils are receiving the appropriate tuition. Lessons are rotated weekly to avoid pupils missing the same classroom lesson every week.

Will my child be able to take exams?

Music Academy for Schools encourage pupils to work towards and take music exams, however they are not essential if the pupil does not want to. Our teachers work to the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music syllabus and believe that music exams are a great way of gaining a sense of achievement. Guitarists work to the Rock School syllabus.

Will there be any school bands or orchestras available for my children to join?

A variety of musical ensembles, run by our music tutors are available and pupils are encouraged to join them. These include: Wind Band, Brass Band, Swing Band, Music Theatre Group and a range of smaller ensembles. Being part of a group provides a lot of fun as well as performing experience.

Are the teachers specialised in the instrument they are teaching?

Yes, Music Academy for Schools believe that to teach an instrument you must be able to play it! A short biography of our teachers can be found here.

Are there any musical activities for the children during the holidays?

During the summer holidays various musical workshops are available for all Music Academy for Schools pupils. These include Classical, Jazz, Chamber Music, World Music and Rock and Pop.

Our teachers are also available for private tuition. Adults are also welcome to contact us. Please call reception and they will arrange a call back from the teacher.
